Who is this course for?
Music Theory A has been specially developed for:
- Adults who have taken a music course at Muziek Lokaal.
- Adults who sing or play an instrument at a music school or band.
- Adults who will be taking practical exam A next year and also wish to take music theory exam A.
Learn the language of music
so that you can sing or play even better and more convincingly!
Music speaks like a language. Theory is the grammar that teaches you how that language works. You see how a piece of music is constructed, enabling you to play it with more power and feeling. You recognise styles and forms more quickly, and gain the freedom to invent new sounds and improvise.
Music theory is linked to four music exam levels: A, B, C and D. Each level delves deeper into the subject matter and introduces new topics. The lessons also focus on ear training and receptive training.
What we do
Music theory, ear training and receptive training are playfully interwoven in nine lessons. After that, you take a final exam, followed by a discussion lesson.
- We practise and learn together the music theory
- We play on rhythm instruments, glockenspiels, boomwhackers
- We play theory quartet games
- We play short rhythms and melodies, intervals
- We listen to musical instruments, pieces of music, scales and intervals
- We compose rhythms and melodies
- We make rhythmic dictation, melodic dictation, theory and listening exercises
- We work on the interactive whiteboard
